An African giant is reportedly looking at prizing away a Mamelodi Sundowns coach according to the latest.
Sundowns announced a new line up of three coaches ahead of the current campaign after Rulani Mokwena’s departure.
Folz joined Sundowns this season
Sundowns appointed Manqoba Mngqithi as head coach, before reappointing Steve Komphela to be his assistant. That is not where their reinforcements ended, however, as the duo was shortly joined by Romain Folz. The appointment of the Frenchman came as a shock after he left South African shores a couple of seasons ago. This was after being sacked as the head coach of AmaZulu.
That was his second head coaching role in South Africa’s topflight, having previously been in charge of Marumo Gallants. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, he may well be poised for a return as the main man in the dugout. This after reports that Moroccan giants Raja Athletic Club are keen on his services.
Set to leave for Raja?
“He (Folz) has had Raja following him and there is interest. But it’s unclear if it’s a project that he would be keen on right now as he still has a role to play at Sundowns. So, the arrangement is that he will be coming back after finishing with the CAF A License that he is doing. He will still miss the next match against Sekhukhune United on Saturday but should be back for the next one,” said the source to the same publication.
It would be a shock if Folz were to move to Raja. This especially after just signing for Sundowns at the beginning of the season. If he would go to North Africa, he would be the third senior team coach to leave the club for that region. First was Pitso Mosimane who left for Al Ahly and Mokwena who is now at Wydad Casablanca.
Sundowns fans, would Folz be missed if he were to leave the club so soon? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings below.
