Emergency services were called to the New England Highway near The Summit after reports a Mack truck and a Mitsubishi Pajero had crashed.
Both vehicles were knocked off the road and caught fire.
The driver and sole occupant of the Mitsubishi, a 60-year-old Collingwood Park man, died at the scene.
The driver and sole occupant of the truck, a 65-year-old man from New South Wales, sustained minor injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
