A man was charged with dangerous driving, and assault with a blunt instrument after driving his vehicle into another man.
A driver allegedly used his vehicle to hit a pedestrian involved in an earlier altercation.
Police were called to reports of yelling and a loud bang outside a Kaikorai Valley Rd address, Dunedin in the early hours of Sunday morning, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said.
When police arrived they found only broken glass on the road, but after talking to people at several addresses they identified a 33-year-old man.
Witnesses said the man was the driver of a vehicle which struck a 26-year-old man on the road.
The pair were earlier involved in a fight, which involved throwing bottles at each other, Bond said.

A windscreen was left smashed during the incident.
The driver was charged with dangerous driving, and assault with a blunt instrument.
Police were kept busy with other vehicle related matters over the weekend, including several drink drivers recording high breath alcohol readings.
One of the more concerning ones unfolded on Portobello Rd on Friday at 5.30pm.
Police pulled over a 43-year-old female driver who recorded a breath 1254 micrograms (mcgs)of alcohol pre litre of breath – five times over the legal limit.
Compounding that high reading was that the driver had her two kids – aged 15 and five.
She was charged with drink-driving and endangering children, and her licence was suspended.
The driver will appear in the Dunedin District Court on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a checkpoint on Gowlan St, Shiel Hill, also resulted in a 21-year-old driver recording 1257mcgs on Friday, about 9.30pm.
He told police he had been ‘’drinking with mates at a flat’’, and was also to appear in court and have his licence suspended.
Bond said it was ‘’disappointing’’ for police that people were continuing to drink and drive.
