Job Summary
Develops and maintains forecasts, reports, plans, and communications using applicable outage modeling and weather management tools as necessary. Performs assignments using specialized background and resources to interpret information and data to then apply it to various needs. Supporting areas include electric dispatch, emergency preparedness and response, and organizations across the enterprise as needed.. Recommends operational actions necessary to assist implementation of restoration plans and participates in the outage analysis. This is an individual contributor role, therefore will not have direct reports to oversee and manage.
Key Accountabilities
- Analyzes and predicts weather patterns for daily operational updates.
- Ability to understand data for modeling weather and its impact on the DTE electric system.
- Recommends action necessary to assist the implementation of emergency restoration plans.
- Continually monitor and be able to communicate effectively weather patterns and outage risks to internal stakeholders.
- Ability to be available and perform job duties during storms impacting DTE service territory; this may include holidays, weekends, and after normal working hours.
- Visit weather stations sites to troubleshoot and provide maintenance when needed.
- Archives, maintains, trends, and forecasts daily meteorological information for influence on DTE Energy customers in and around the service territory.
- Keeps abreast of changes in the areas of meteorology, computer applications, and applied meteorology practices.
- Maintains and negotiates appropriate contracts for meteorological services that support this position. Performs/creates assignments, models, studies, services, and meteorological assessments using expert knowledge from various technical areas in support of management, internal and external customers, and corporate priorities.
- Prepares various management-level reports, legal summaries, customer, and schedule analyses.
- Utilizes creativity, continuous improvements, problem solving and initiative to develop, perform, and implement special assignments and daily work.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Science or Meteorology and 3 years of job-related experience.
Other Qualifications
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Atmospheric Science or Meteorology.
- Experience supporting an electric utility.
Other Requirements
- Computer Skills: computer operations including Microsoft Office with advanced Excel
- Moderate knowledge of computer programming and database management.,
- Moderate data analytics skills with the preferred understanding and use of Power BI.
- Knowledge of budgeting, contract development/negotiation, and a strong focus on employee safety.
- Knowledge of organization and management skills, project management, strategic planning, and employee communications in a diverse environment.
- In-depth knowledge of meteorological data systems, meteorological data, methodologies, forecast models and techniques, as well as meteorology biases and inherent forecast difficulties.
- Ability to communicate effectively and make informed decisions through presentations, and conference calls regarding how the weather impacts operational strategies.
- Moderate knowledge of project management.
- Typically Day shift – Ability to be available and perform job duties during storms impacting DTE service territory; this may include holidays, weekends, and after normal working hours.
