Wiesbaden (dpa) – Most new buildings in Germany fitted with heat pumps. In 2023, nearly two thirds (64.6 percent) of the 96,800 completed residential buildings were equipped with electrically operated heat pumps, reports the Federal Statistical Office. This trend is continuing, with the proportion of approved residential buildings to be fitted with heat pumps currently at 76.3 percent. Heat pumps are to play an important role in the energy transition so that Germany can achieve its objective of climate neutrality by 2045.
In new buildings, renewable energies are also used as a supplementary energy source – in the form of a wood-burning stove, for example. Whether as a primary or secondary source, renewable energies are used for heating purposes in four out of five new residential buildings (79.6 percent).
