Nasreddine Nabi has reportedly turned down the advances of Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca to stay at Kaizer Chiefs.
Raja are reportedly sounding out coaches in the hopes of replacing current mentor Ricardo Sa Pinto after a tough start.
Raja coach Sa Pinto in trouble
Sa Pinto recently came down to South Africa with Raja and suffered a 1-0 loss against Mamelodi Sundowns. That result gave the Brazilians their first victory in the tournament this season. Already the coach was thought to be under pressure before that game. It was thought that the club had drawn up a shortlist of possible replacements. This as they saw that game as a last chance for the Portuguese mentor.
Now after losing that game Raja may now be ready to act on their shortlist. That list reportedly included their former coach Josef Zinnbauer who won the double with them last season. The former Orlando Pirates mentor then left the side for the Middle East. He was then fired there and is available again. Nabi was the other coach and having pushed Zinnbauer’s Raja last season, they know what he is capable of.
According to FARPost Nabi was approached by Raja to be their coach, but turned them down to stay at Chiefs.
Nabi offered job, rejects it to stay at Chiefs!
“Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has rejected an offer from a North African giant. The three-time CAF Champions League winner, Raja Athletic Club, reportedly made advances for the former AS FAR Rabat mentor’s services. Raja, the defending Moroccan champions, is searching for a new head coach. They are set to part ways with Ricardo Sa Pinto following a disappointing start to his tenure. Sa Pinto, who managed just two wins in 11 games, would be the second coach to leave the club since Zinnbauer’s departure after the 2023/24 season.” Wrote the publication.
Nabi has not had the best of starts at Chiefs, with just three wins in nine matches this far. Amakhosi fans, are you happy he is staying? Or should the club pull the plug on the Tunisian as early as possible? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
