It was a night full of pomp and colour and one for the books for Nelly Cheboi who hails from Kenya’s Mogotio area.

She was announced victor during a star-studded event early on Monday, December 12, held in Atlanta, USA beating at least 7 other contestants.
Nelly Cheboi’s Background
Having grown up in poverty, Cheboi worked hard in school and landed a full scholarship to study computer science at Augustana College in Illinois.

She later built a school in Kenya, Zawadi, where she founded TechLit Africa.
Before starting up the nonprofit organisation, in 2019, Cheboi quit a lucrative software engineering job in Chicago, so that she can transform the lives of children from her humble background.
She has been acquiring old computers from friends and reconditioning them, and using them to teach rural kids digital skills.

Mama Cheboi gets holiday
In other news, Nelly Cheboi is not the only one basking in the glory of her success. Mama Cheboi was present on the night of the gala.
Soon after the award, tour company Expeditions Maasai announced that they were impressed by Cheboi.
As a sign of appreciating her, they gifted the techie a fully paid holiday to the Mara alongside her Mum.
During the gala night Cheboi called her Mum to the stage and it is vividly clear the two are very close.
