The Brooklyn Nets are a star player away from being NBA title contenders.
It feels funny to say that. In the grand scheme of things, this team just had Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving on their roster. Of course they’re a star away from contention.
Meanwhile, how many teams could you say that about? If the Detroit Pistons had a star, they’d be a playoff team. If they had two stars, they’d be title hopefuls.
Still, this Nets team feels uniquely designed to trade for a star and get back to contending. They have an unusually large number of outstanding role players.
If the Nets could add an offensive focal point without sacrificing any of them, they’d be in wonderful shape.
Could they land Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards?
