The New Plmyouth District Councul-run Festival of Lights has been awarded at the NZ Event Association’s awards gala.
New Plymouth’s Festival of Lights won two categories at the New Zealand Event Awards on Tuesday night.
New Plymouth District Council, which put on the festival, was also recognised for the Oxfam Trailwalker event.
NPDC took home Best Local Government Event and New Zealand’s Favourite Event (by public vote) for the Festival of Lights and Best Event Use of Technology for Oxfam Trailwalker.
The awards gala took place in Napier.
“It’s great to be celebrating excellence in major events at a time when such events are much needed to attract international tourists again” NZ Events Association (NZEA) general manager Ségolène de Fontenay said in a statement.

“Organising any event depends on managing multiple moving parts, including suppliers, guests, entertainment, catering and more. With Covid presenting an unpredictable additional dimension, organisers have truly had their backs against the wall.”
A total of 17 awards were made in three categories.
Judges looked at a total of 108 events including sports, arts and culture, community, corporate social responsibility and business events, individuals, venues, sponsors and suppliers.
The winner of the ‘Best Major or Mega Event’ category was taken out by the 36th America’s Cup.
