COVID-19 has reared its head in the election campaign, with the PM quizzed on the number of recent Australian infections and deaths.
Morrison maintained Australia was sticking to a successful management plan and was following medical advice.
“There were some 53,000 case numbers yesterday, and what you see when you have case numbers at that level, is that people, when they pass away, from many other causes, they will die with COVID,” he said.
“And their deaths are recorded as COVID deaths, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they died from COVID.”
He said Australia would not be “dragged back” into lockdowns and isolation.
