TOKYO — Nippon Steel has rebutted a United Steelworkers (USW) video that criticizes its proposed acquisition of U.S. Steel, releasing a statement on Monday that discloses exchanges with the union’s executive board about capital investments it intends to make in the company.
Monday’s statement aimed at U.S. Steel employees was issued under the name of Takahiro Mori, the vice chairman and executive vice president in charge of the Japanese steelmaker’s acquisition plan. In a recent meeting with the USW executive board, Nippon Steel explained the plan and listened to union requests.
