North Melbourne recorded its second win of the AFLW season with a scrappy 12-point victory over Geelong in Launceston.
Vikki Wall scored two goals, with Sophie Abbatangelo and Brooke Brown adding one apiece, as the Kangaroos ran out winners 4.4 (28) to 2.4 (16).
Georgie Prespakis was excellent for the Cats with 32 touches and 9 tackles, both game-high totals.
However, the Cats simply took too long to get into the contest and were always up against it as they fought their way back into contention after half-time.
The Kangaroos dominated the first half, holding the Cats to just one point to lead by 21 at the major break.
The Cats deservedly got on the board after half-time, with Laura Gardiner scoring her first AFLW goal.
However, two goals from Meath’s All Ireland Gaelic Football champion Wall ensured the Kangaroos held a 19-point lead at the final change, a deficit ultimately too large to overcome despite Jacqueline Parry scoring a fourth-quarter goal.
Early rain made surface conditions swampy in patches and heavy throughout, although the York Park pitch closer resembled a lake half-an-hour before kick-off.
The victory maintains North Melbourne’s record of having never been beaten by Geelong in four AFLW matches.
The Kangaroos have also never lost a game in Tasmania in 10 appearances.
