South Australian Premier Steven Marshall says coronavirus cases in his state are expected to peak between the 15th and 25th of this month, according to the latest modelling commissioned by his government.
“The range in terms of that peak is going to be between 6000 and 10,000 cases per day,” he said during today’s COVID-19 update.
Mr Marshall said had his state not introduced recent coronavirus restrictions, that peak would have been closer to 30,000 or 40,000 cases.
Meanwhile, South Australia has unveiled its return-to-school plans. The state’s youngest primary schools students and youngest and oldest high school students will return to face-to-face learning on February 2.
However, all other year levels won’t return to face-to-face learning until February 14 (online classes will begin on February 2).
“I don’t like doing this,” Mr Marshall said. “There are serious consequences for families, also for schools, teachers and principals. We recognise this. We didn’t want to do this.
“[But] we can reduce the number of positive cases through February by tens of thousands by taking this action.”
