New York: The New York State’s ‘All Electric Buildings Act’ will for sure put its dwellers on a green path to a healthier future.
Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright in her social media site X, said that starting in 2026, most new buildings in New York will be built with electric heat systems and appliances.
Existing buildings will not be impacted, even when they are being repaired or renovated
Individual new construction can get a waiver if the local utility cannot provide reliable service Rebecca
Meanwhile, an NRDC report said The All-Electric Building Act, adopted as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 New York state budget, restricts the inclusion of fossil fuel hookups in new homes and buildings up to 8 stories high starting in 2026.
This takes a phased-in approach, with requirements for larger buildings coming into force in 2029.
It said that burning fossil fuels in homes and businesses is one of the biggest sources of climate pollution.
In New York State, buildings are the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, since transportation emissions are lower than average due to New York City’s extensive public transportation system and building density.
