The women’s K4 500 team are through to the final after easily winning their heat.
Dame Lisa Carrington, Aotearoa’s most decorated Olympian, Alicia Hoskin, Olivia Brett and Tara Vaughan led from the beginning and never looked back.
Carrington and team mate Hoskin also won their K2 500m and are through to the semi-final. Fellow New Zealanders Aimee Fisher and Lucy Matahaere have to compete in the quarter-finals if they want to advance.
New Zealand’s men’s team in the K4 500m and K2 500m also have to race again in the quarter finals.
Meanwhile, first-time Olympian middle-distance runner Maia Ramsden is through to the semi-final of the 1500m after coming sixth in her heat.
Climber Julian David, who won the men’s and women’s titles at the IFSC sport climbing oceania qualifier in Melbourne last November, is set for the seeding round at 11pm.
