One person has been confirmed dead following a serious crash on the Waikato Expressway (SH1) this evening.

Emergency services had responded to an incident involving a vehicle and pedestrian after police were notified at about 6:20pm.
The road has now been closed in both directions and diversions are in place.
The Serious Crash Unit were examining the scene.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
