Patrick Beverley was mad after a former San Antonio Spurs star was seemingly disrespected.
The NBA always finds ways to honor the greatest players in league history. It could be by holding ceremonies at the NBA’s 50th and 75th anniversaries.
However, one way that the NBA did so was renaming its major end-of-season accolades after the 2022-23 season.
After the decision, the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award was renamed to the John Havlicek Trophy. But some believe that it should be changed.
DeAndre Jordan wants the NBA to change the 6MOY trophy name
For context, the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award is given to a player who performs incredibly while coming off the bench.
Speaking of which, former NBA stars Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams have won the award for a record three times each.
Despite that, the NBA didn’t rename the trophy after them. This didn’t sit well with former LA Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan, who urged the league to change the award’s name to honor them.
“I think they should name the trophy after [you two],” said Jordan. “It could be the ‘Louis-Crawford Sixth Man [of the Year] Award,” Jordan said, via Run It Back on X.
In theory, it makes sense for the NBA to consider it in the future, but it would likely take years before the league acts on it.
Patrick Beverley believes Jordan disrespected one player
When it comes to discussing the best players from the bench, it’s hard not to include San Antonio Spurs legend Manu Ginobili.
The Basketball Hall of Famer helped the Spurs win four NBA Championships during his career. Despite playing well throughout his career, he won the Sixth Man of the Year trophy just once.
Even though Ginobili doesn’t have the sheer quantity like Williams or Crawford, former LA Lakers guard Patrick Beverly was angry at Jordan for disrespecting him.
“Don’t y’all ever disrespect Ginobili,” Beverley wrote on X.
Since departing from the NBA, Pat Bev has developed a reputation for his unique takes about the league. However, this time around, fans can certainly agree with the 36-year-old’s views.
