Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has promised he will bang goals to fire Southampton to Premier League safety if he gets enough playing time at the club.
Giant-sized Onuachu joined Southampton on January 31 from Belgian side Genk where he scored 84 goals in 138 appearances.
The Super Eagle made his Saints debut in a 3-0 loss at Brentford. With Southampton trailing by two, manager Nathan Jones introduced his new signings.
I’m very motivated, it’s a huge challenge,” Onuachu told the club’s official website.
“Coming here we are last on the table and everybody is working to really try to leave the relegation zone.
“It’s a huge challenge, not just for me but for everybody in the team. I’m going to give it all if I have the chance to play, and try to help the team to survive.”
Despite the 3-0 loss to Brentford, Southampton manager Nathan Jones was impressed with the performance of Paul Onuachu and fellow deadline day buy Kamaldeen.
” They made a difference. They gave us an impetus and we looked better, put more balls in the box and were a better team, ” Jones told the Post match interview of Onuachu and Kamaldeen.
” They’ve added to the squad, they added to the performance, they gave us a little bit more focal point, a bit more aggression, bit more front-footedness and we were better in the second half.”
Southampton will this weekend face Wolverhampton in the English Premier League.
With the practice sessions this week, Paul Onuachu will hope to impress Jones enough to get on the starting XI for his home debut.
