Paul Pierce defends Hakeem Olajuwon from Gilbert Arenas’ comments on his workout. Arenas recently posted a video of him making fun of Olajuwon’s price tag for his workout. The retired point guard didn’t find the $50,000 price worth the week-long workout with the Hall of Famer.
Paul Pierce Defends Hakeem Olajuwon On Instagram
In the comment section of the alleged video, the small forward called out Arenas for not respecting his predecessors.
One of Arenas’ main points in his argument-slash-call-out video is that no one in the league is doing Olajuwon’s moves anymore. The guard calls him obsolete in the eyes of the newer league.
However, Pierce begs to disagree. He claims that many still copy what the 12-time All-Star did in his time in the league.
While the players in the league don’t necessarily copy the “Dream Shake,” they still show remnants of it with their movement. Despite being created over two decades ago, even top players now, like Stephen Curry, mimic the move to great effect.
Fans Are Against Arenas As Well
They fill the comment section about Arenas’ wrong take, considering that many top-rated players trained under Olajuwon. A few of these would be Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, and soon Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Furthermore, fans argue that the post-up training will help the Milwaukee Bucks forward’s longevity in the league. Requiring less explosiveness and physicality, a layup will be safer for older players. This will serve the Bucks MVP well when he reaches the latter years of his career.
Lastly, some call Arenas out for possibly using the issue as clickbait to garner more views and clicks.
Despite the drama happening, Olajuwon’s moves still impress even decades later.
Would Hakeem Olajuwon dominate the current NBA generation or be left in the dust?
