Pochettino has players that fully trust him, results will follow – Talk Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino is in a very rare situation right now for a Chelsea manager, something we have not collectively seen here for quite a while.

Some of the players loved Thomas Tuchel, but he also annoyed many of them and ‘lost’ some. The same thing happened with Frank Lampard before him, and then with Graham Potter after both of them.

With Lampard and Tuchel, it was probably their passionate personalities that some players turned away from. With Potter, players were doubting that he had the credentials to manage Chelsea.

But what Pochettino has right now is he collectively has EVERY single player behind him. They love him as a person, and they rate him as a coach. This is rare, and Pochettino must make the most of this time to get results and keep everyone on side. It concerns me how quick things can change and we have all seen that many times before.

But I said from the off that the players will love Pochettino’s personality and who he is as a human being, and they are absolutely doing just that right now. He’s perfect for a young group of players.

Levi Colwill has been absolutely raving about him today.

On Pochettino, Colwill said: “He is a great manager, really makes me feel comfortable and allows me to play my best game. I think with him at the club, it has changed so much and now we want to kick on.

“I think the big thing for me is, on the first day I came in, putting an arm around me and showing me that he respects me as a person and also as a player. That allows me to work my hardest and makes me want to play my best for him.”

“That’s a big difference, him showing that there are two sides whereas the majority of managers may just look at you like a footballer, which he doesn’t. That helps me play my best football. I know I’m going to improve. I can guarantee that. He’s such a good manager and he will push me, he won’t let me have any off-days, that’s what I need.”

“Someone like me, if someone lets me go to sleep, I might just have a good day or a bad day. I need someone there to give me that kick up bum and say ‘keep going’. That’s what he does.”

As you can see, Levi is drawing on the human aspects. And in today’s football with today’s players, the human side is SO important. Players need to feel wanted, they need an arm around them, and they need to have that confidence instilled in them. That is what Poch does best, to all of the players.

That is why he only wanted players in his squad who wanted to be here at the club, because he knows how important it is to get a good atmosphere and morale in the camp on a daily basis, and he has bought that with him.

The players respect and rate him as a coach as well, and that means they will listen and trust what he says and tells them to do.

Right now, even though we have only got four points from four games, Pochettino is in the perfect position and he is being fully backed by the players.

That’s why it’s so important now to get results when play resumes. We know we wont win every game. Poch knows that, the players know that. But we must get better results now and use the situation that we have, which is everyone pulling in the same direction together.

I do believe the results will come because I personally trust Pochettino as well as a person and as a coach. There’s been decisions and tactics that I’ve disagreed with, granted. But I still have full belief that Pochettino will put it right and get the results.

It’s all new, it’s all fresh, it’s VERY early doors. We are finding our feet with a VERY young squad, a squad who are slowly gelling together. We’ve been hit by injuries and it’s all been a bit makeshift.

But there is a confidence in the camp and a belief that goes from top to bottom that this squad can achieve big things together with this manager, and you can see from Levi’s comments above that they are all very much in this together and will stay fully behind the manager for a good length of time. And as we know, as a Chelsea manager you fully need this and you need to keep the dressing room onside. Poch has a fantastic chance of doing just that, the best chance of any Chelsea manager for a long time.
