Chelsea welcome Brighton to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening for the League Cup third round clash.
It’s always going to carry a lot of tension this game and to be honest, Chelsea must be and will be taking this one seriously.
Winning any kind of silverware this season will do wonders for the club, the players, and for Mauricio Pochettino. So that is why we must absolutely be doing all we can in this competition.
It’s very hard to know what kind of a lineup that Pochettino will be going for, but the Chelsea website has already hinted at perhaps one or two ‘fringe players’ coming in from the start, or even on the bench. We also have a situation at right back with both Malo Gusto and Reece James out.
I personally find this very hard to call even though I think largely Pochettino will mainly go for a strong lineup.
I believe this could be the starting Xl tonight:
(4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Disasi, Silva, Colwill, Chilwell; Gallagher, Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Mudryk; Jackson.
I think Petrovic could be the cup keeper so he will get the nod. Disasi is the only real option for right back with Malo Gusto suspended and Reece James injured.
Madueke surely gets a chance to start as well as Palmer. Jackson’s suspended for Fulham on Monday so I think that’s why he starts tonight. Enzo Fernandez probably gets a rest as he’s played SO much football of late.
Pochettino and his staff will be taking this very seriously and a good cup run will do wonders for confidence and for morale in the group. Nobody will be predicting Chelsea to win a trophy this season so this is a good chance to do so.
Brighton are a super tough opponent though and this game will be very hard, with both clubs seeing a good chance to challenge for some silverware. Either way, it will be a competitive match and I only see academy players on the bench for Chelsea and not in the starting Xl.
