UPDATE TUESDAY, JULY 26, 6:30 P.M.: Roots Party Presidential candidate George Wajackoyah explained why he stormed out of the Presidential Debate venue at Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
In a video he shared shortly after leaving the venue, Wajackoyah, who was in the company of his running mate Justina Wamae, noted that he had written two letters to the organisers but received no feedback.
He further added that the response he received at the venue was not satisfactory which prompted him to exit.
“As Kenyans and Roots Party members, we have opted out of the debate because we noticed discrimination by the media. We wrote them a letter asking why we cannot share the podium (with the other Presidential candidates)…. but they did not answer. We wrote a follow-up letter today but still no answer.
“We opted out because our rights were not respected. We are an anti-corruption party and we can see the media being cognisant with what happened,” he stated.
UPDATE Tuesday, July 26 4:43 p.m.: Roots Party Presidential candidate George Wajackoyah stormed out of the venue of the Presidential debate a few minutes after arrival.
The Presidential candidate protested the decision by the organisers to segregate candidates based on their popularity ranking in latest opinion polls.
Wajackoyah addressed the press in the company of his lawyer Danstan Omari – arguing that it would be unfair to have different debate sessions while the election will be held at the same time.

Roots Party Presidential candidate George Wajackoyah made a surprise appearance at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa for the Presidential debate – hours after announcing that he would skip the event.
Speaking to the Press on Tuesday, July 26, the presidential candidate maintained that he would not proceed to the podium unless all the four candidates were placed on the same podium.
He blamed the media for attempting to sideline his candidature by segregating the contenders and pitting him against Agano Party’s David Mwaure who arrived shortly after.
“I am not attending the debate unless we are four,” Wajackoyah maintained.
At the entrance to the university, Wajackoyah nearly got physical with a security guard attempting to stop part of his entourage from accessing the facility.
He argued that another car was ferrying his wife.
Previously, the presidential contender had maintained that he would not participate in the debate if all the Presidential candidates, including Raila Odinga of Azimio, William Ruto (Kenya Kwanza) and Mwaure, are not placed on the same podium.
“I will not participate unless there is Raila Odinga, William Samoei Ruto, Mwaure, and I on the same platform speaking before Kenyans, for Kenyans to make an informed choice,” he announced on July 21.
