One NBA writer is proposing that the Miami Heat acquire Tyus Jones from the Washington Wizards in a bold deal. Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Heat and Wizards:
Miami Heat Receive: PG Tyus Jones
Washington Wizards Receive: F Duncan Robinson, 2028 first-round pick (top-10-protected)
“Jones, 27, has averaged 12.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.9 assists, 1.6 steals and shot 36.5 percent from three in 94 career starts, stepping in for Ja Morant as needed for the Memphis Grizzlies the past four years,” Swartz wrote in his NBA trade column. “He’d join a starting lineup in Miami along with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and (insert name here) that would now be far more likely to make it back to the Finals.”
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Tyus Jones, Washington Wizards, Miami Heat Updates
Jones appeared in 80 games for the Memphis Grizzlies last season. He averaged 10.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists while shooting 43.8% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 80.0% from the free-throw line.
The Grizzlies traded Jones to the Wizards this offseason. Jones, 27, has career NBA averages of 6.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Grizzlies.
The Heat missed out on Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday this offseason. Jones isn’t a star like Lillard and Holiday, but he’s a quality guard who has a rapport with Miami small forward Jimmy Butler, as the two were teammates on the Timberwolves. Jones is one of the top passers in the NBA. He has 2,108 assists and only 400 turnovers in 535 games.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Tyus Jones, Washington Wizards, Miami Heat Updates
The Heat, who lost to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals in five games, could start Jones, Tyler Herro, Butler, Kevin Love and Bam Adebayo if Miami’s front office figured out a way to acquire Jones from Washington.
