H&M’s designer collabs are some of the most coveted drops of the year, and for good reason. Starting with Karl Lagerfeld in 2004, the high street monolith has partnered with some major designers over the last 20 years, from Stella McCartney (2005) to Giambattista Valli (2019) to most recently, Rabanne in 2023.
Now, former Y/Project and Diesel creative director Glenn Martens has been announced as the next designer to bring his unique creative vision to H&M’s audiences.
While no images have been released (we tried our best to pry, we promise) we’re already super excited for what the Belgian designer might cook up.
After all, some of the most highly anticipated shows of the last few years have been Glenn Marten’s Diesel catwalks. Glenn is widely credited for reinjecting a sense of relevance and cool to the iconic denim brand, giving it a high-fashion makeover that allowed it to sit comfortably alongside high-brow fashion brands.
Glenn’s role in fashion soon after graduating from the prestigious Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp (where former Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia was also a student) was under the legendary Jean Paul Gaultier. He was soon recruited by Y/Project creative director and founder Yohan Serfaty and took over the brand after Serfaty’s passing, turning it into a cult streetwear label coveted by the likes of Rihanna and Charli XCX.
His appointment to the helm of Diesel in 2020 propelled him to the big leagues, and earned him a legion of loyal fans who fell in love with his signature deconstructed tailoring and keen eye for creative unexpected denim. Glenn took his last bow as he announced the show this past September would be his last for Diesel, but we’re glad to be seeing more of his designs next year.
If his career up to this point is anything to go by, Glenn’s collection for H&M will no doubt feature plenty of spliced-and-diced denim, distressed fabrics, and strategic cutouts.
For now, we’ll just have to sit tight until the collection drops next autumn!
