A prehistoric election pundit has put the bite on the nation’s leaders, predicting the “winner” of Saturday’s federal election, in a very Top End fashion.
Key points:
- Speckles the croc has predicted Anthony Albanese will win the federal election
- The 4.7 metre reptile initially seemed indecisive before making a snap decision
- The CLP’s Tina McFarlane was chosen by Speckles to take out the Top End seat of Solomon
But would you put your faith in a so-called “psychic” crocodile?
Speckles, a 4.7 metre saltwater crocodile, was tasked with predicting whether Prime Minister Scott Morrison, or Labor Leader Anthony Albanese, will prevail.
He was presented with posters of the two contenders at Crocodylus Park in Darwin, which were attached to a few meaty treats.
Like many swing voters, Speckles started out a little indecisive about which candidate to choose, before finally landing on Mr Albanese as the winner.
It remains unknown how the snap poll was decided, with the psychic saltie staying silent on his methods.
Tour guide Payton Prosser said he wasn’t sure how Speckles would personally vote, if the croc was given the chance.
“I don’t think Scomo’s got the guts to tell him his policies, neither would the other bloke,” he said.
“[They’re] more than welcome to come down and talk to him about it, but it’ll fall on deaf ears.”
Speckles didn’t stop at deciding the next Prime Minister, with his eyes then set on the Northern Territory seat of Solomon.
The 600-800 kilogram giant picked the Country Liberal Party’s Tina MacFarlane over Labor’s Luke Gosling, who is seeking a third term in office.
