A hefty ransom of $1.4 million (about R26.7 million) has been demanded for the safe return of 58-year-old Gqeberha businessman, Neal Ah-Tow.
Five gunmen snatched Ah-Tow from outside his shop, Neal’s Fish and Chips in Sidwell, at around 07:00 last Friday, as he was about to open the store, according to police.
He was shoved into a silver Chevrolet Cruze before they sped off.
The Hawks have taken over the investigation.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said the ransom demand was made late on Monday afternoon.
The kidnappers instructed Ah-Tow to make the ransom call himself. During the phone call to his daughter, Ah-Tow asked for the name of his high blood pressure medication.
Mgolodela said the currency demanded was an indication that the kidnappers might be foreign nationals.
“These are merely speculations,” she added.
The search continues.
