Welch’s role in the 1966 film One Million Years BC was life-changing for the then-unknown actress.
In the adventure film, the US-born star wore an animal-skin bikini as cavewoman Loana – which is now among the most iconic film costumes of all time.
It earned Welch a reputation as a sex symbol on the screen, whether she liked it or not.
In 2017, Welch remembered her surprising worldwide fame after the movie premiered.
“I was just there doing this dinosaur movie in the Canary Islands, up on a volcano, it was snowing and I’m wearing this little torn away shammy with a few fur bits left on it,” Welch told Access Hollywood.
“Finally, we wrap the whole show and we go back to London because it was British production, and I get off the plane there and these photographers are everywhere and they are yelling my name.
She added: “I thought, ‘Wow, they know who I am? All because I came here and did this crazy dinosaur movie?’ It was the costume, it was wham, bam and woah!”
