Squash star Joelle King chases a second Commonwealth Games gold in 24 hours to potentially boost her country’s tally on the final day in Birmingham.
King, who won mixed doubles gold with Paul Coll early on Monday (NZT), has a quick backup when she teams up with her close friend Amanda Landers-Murphy in the women’s doubles final around 10pm on Monday (NZT).
The pair face England duo Sarah-Jane Perry and Alison Waters in the gold medal match, having won the Commonwealth title four years ago on the Gold Coast.
Landers-Murphy, runner-up to King at the recent nationals, spoke of how King convinced her to come out of retirement to chase back to back doubles golds in Birmingham.
Gold to the duo would boost New Zealand’s total to 20, three clear of the previous record of 17 they won in Auckland in 1990.
At the end of day 10, the team’s gold tally of 19 (total medals 48) had New Zealand ranked fourth on the medal table, seven golds behind Canada and one ahead of India.
Just four of New Zealand’s 232-strong team remain to compete on a shorter final day in Birmingham.
Aside from King and Landers-Murphy, divers Maggie Squire and Frazer Tavener begin the action just after 9pm in the mixed synchronised 3m springboard final.
Then, it’s a wrap with only the closing ceremony and the identity of New Zealand’s flagbearer to be revealed early on Tuesday (NZT).

9.05pm: Mixed synchronised 3m springboard final (Maggie Squire, Frazer Tavener)
