Berlin (dpa) – According to the solar industry, more new solar plants for generating electricity and heat were installed in Germany last year than ever before. The German Solar Industry Association says that more than one million new systems were fitted. A large number of these were so-called balcony power plants. In 2023, some 270,000 so-called plug-in solar devices were put into operation in Germany – four times as many as in 2022.
According to the association, around 3.7 million solar power systems are now installed in Germany: they are said to have generated around 62 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2023, thereby covering approximately twelve per cent of Germany’s total electricity consumption. The association say that, given the further increases in electricity prices and attractive subsidy conditions, it anticipates that demand will remain high in 2024. “We expect the solar boom to continue in 2024,” said director Carsten Körnig.
According to the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, net public electricity generation reached a record share of renewable energies of 59.7 per cent in 2023.
