Wiesbaden (d.de) – The number of foreign professional qualifications recognised in Germany has more than tripled in recent years. As the Federal Statistical Office reports, the number of recognised qualifications has risen continuously since recognition processes under federal and state law began to be jointly recorded in 2016. In 2024, the respective authorities approved 79,100 applications – up 21 percent on the previous year.
The statistics from 2024 show that Turkey, with 9,200 recognitions, accounted for the highest number of people who had their qualifications recognised. Ukraine followed in second place with 6,400 recognitions. This figure doubled by comparison with the year before. Tunisia (5,300), India (4,900) and Syria (4,300) also accounted for large proportions of the total number of recognitions. Conversely, the number of people who had their qualifications recognised from Bosnia and Herzegovina (4,000) and the Philippines (3,600) declined, these countries dropping back from second and third place to sixth and seventh place respectively.
As in the previous year, it was above all professional qualifications in healthcare that were recognised. In total, 32,500 applications from nurses were approved. This was followed by doctors with 11,000 recognitions and engineers with 4,400.
