Former NBA player turned analyst Richard Jefferson lamented that Evan Turner’s recent comments on the Warriors were “aggressive,” per Sideline Sources’ Wenzell Ortiz. However, the world champion did not disagree with Turner’s overall premise, stating that “no superstar has taken an easier path to dominance.”
On a recent episode of Turner’s podcast, Point Forward, which he hosts alongside Warriors forward Andre Igoudala, Turner lambasted the Golden State dynasty for being “lame as f*ck.” His reasoning lies in the Warriors being “unfair” after their acquisition of Kevin Durant.
Jefferson, who played against said ‘lame’ Warriors in the 2017 Finals, challenged Turner’s remarks for being superfluously truculent. The ‘Durant joining the Warriors’ commentary ostensibly dissipated years ago, yet Turner’s rejuvenated the discourse.
Interestingly, though, the 42-year-old did not take issue with Turner’s notion. Focusing primarily on Durant’s perspective, Jefferson asserted that the two-time champion should have no qualms with viewing his Finals MVPs as easier than others.
“That’s aggressive and it’s already been covered, no superstar has taken an easier path to dominance,” Jefferson told Sideline Sources’ Wenzell Ortiz. “Bron and Bosh joined the Heat but the year before the Heat were a lower seed, not two-time finalists. KD can do it, not knocking it, but the value of Finals MVPs is weighted by the difficulty of the journey.”
Evan Turner calls Warriors ‘lame as f*ck’
Last month, Turner ruffled the feathers of Dub Nation. The 34-year-old disparaged the dynastic squad for adding Durant to their already championship calibre team in 2016.
However, Turner assured Igoudala, who was on those ‘unfair’ Warriors squads, that his remarks were innocuous. Although that did not preclude him from doubling down on his pontification.
“Y’all won a lot of championships but it was lame as f–k,” Turner said on his podcast. “For four or five years there was a media run and there was a hype train of a franchise running through, which were the Warriors. And that was KD doing that. There was just certain points where it just seemed unfair. We’re not knocking it, to each their own.
You had to wait till this narrative ended in the moment of history. I’m not knocking it but at the same time, I’m still playing against Andre Iguodala, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and whoever else. That’s like playing against MJ fool. It still don’t make no sense. It doesn’t justify anything. Y’all won a lot of championships but it was lame as f–k.”
Draymond Green responds to Turner’s comments
Green, another member of the aforementioned ‘lame’ and ‘unfair’ Warriors teams, also shared his opinion on Turner’s remarks. The four-time champion prefaced his comments by admitting that he had not listened to the entire podcast.
With that being said, Green candidly posted on his Instagram that Turner “sounded like someone who got they a** kicked often.”
“Let me start by saying this is the only soundbite of this whole episode that I’ve heard,” Green wrote on his Instagram. “So I have no context.
Dominating is lame? This sounds like someone who got they a** kicked often! Good work fellas.”
Upon losing to the Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals, the Warriors recruited Durant to join Dub Nation. Golden State would go on to win back-to-back championships and represent the West in the next three Finals. Durant moved to Brooklyn after the Warriors’ 2019 Finals loss to the Raptors — a series that he was sidelined for due to an Achilles tear.
