Former Nairobi County Governor Aspirant, and current president of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Richard Ngatia bagged an international appointment.
Revealing the good news on Thursday, December 22, President William Ruto celebrated him stating that the appointment acted on the advantage of the country.
“We congratulate the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its Chairman, Richard Ngatia for the appointment and co-option into the International Chamber of Commerce,” he stated.
“This is instrumental as we prepare to host the Kenya International Investment Conference in March 2023,” he added.

The appointment came after Ngatia’s visit to Washington alongside Ruto where the head of state held a series of meetings on the sidelines of the US Africa Leaders Summit.
He had accompanied the president with Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, Foreign affairs CS Alfred Mutua and Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u on December 17.
Ngatia also serves as the chairman of International Committee of the Great Lakes Region and a Special Business Advisor to the Council of Governors.
Ngatia led the private sector delegates at the summit, in which, President Ruto secured a number of deals for the country.
Representing Kenya, he stated that the country was rich in infrastructure, agricultural products and technological applications.
“Kenyans have the capacity and infrastructure. What we are keen on is opportunities that will hand them job opportunities,” the Nairobi billionaire noted.
Ngatia was to quit his position at the KNCCI if he had been elected as Nairobi’s fourth governor.
He however shelved his candidature as he prepared to be appointed the President’s special envoy for trade with hopes of Raila Odinga being Kenya’s next head of state.
Before stepping down, he was eyeing the top Nairobi seat under Azimio alongside Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi, Equity Group Chief Commercial Officer, Polycarp Igathe, and businesswoman Anne Kagure.
