The Houston Rockets are on pace to be the worst team in the NBA for the third consecutive season. That’s not good.
It’s unprecedented. Teams have gone back-to-back before, but if the Rockets maintain this pace, they’ll be the first team to three-peat. On the other hand, that may be exactly what they want.
The Rockets are tanking. That much is obvious. If they earn the right to draft one of Victor Wembanyama or Scoot Henderson in the upcoming draft, they probably won’t be concerned with their dubious place in history.
With that said, all of their incentive to lose is gone by next season. The Rockets will owe their next first-round pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Granted, it’s top 4 protected, but after so many years of losing, it’s unlikely that the Rockets will want to play those odds.
Could they make a major trade for Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors instead?
