Rugby commentator Kaunda Ntunja’s legacy honoured with renaming of Dale College hostel

Reunion weekends at Qonce’s Dale College have generally been quasi-sombre celebratory moments, but this weekend’s 163rd Founders celebration will be particularly poignant for Kaunda Ntunja’s wife, Aviwe.

One of Dale College’s two boarding houses, College House, will on Friday – ahead of the reunion hosting of East London rivals Selborne College – be renamed after Ntunja, who died of Covid-19 in July 2020.

Ntunja had already left a significant mark on Dale College’s rugby in his three first-team years between 1998 and 2000. But in last two years, he not only represented the South African Schools rugby team, but became the team’s first black African captain in 2000.
