Rulani Mokwena has wasted no time with finding a new home after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns last week.
Last week, Mokwena leaving Sundowns became a huge scandal, with the news coming out of nowhere to many.
Mokwena left Sundowns
But when one delves deeper, it is clear to see that there were deep issues between Mokwena and Flemming Berg. Berg is the Sundowns sporting director, and it was reported that the two did not see eye-to-eye. This on the signing of players, and who should be staying or going. That then got so bad that the former Orlando Pirates coach decided it was best he removes himself from the situation and the club.
Now barely a week later after leaving Sundowns, Mokwena has found himself employed again. This by yet another African giant in Wydad Casablanca of Morocco. Speaking at his announcement press conference, he said he is under no illusions as to the task at hand.
“I understand how big this challenge is, believe me. I don’t come here with my eyes closed. The negotiations have taken quite a long time because there were quite a few things we had to agree on. The one thing I really appreciate is that the board is as ambitious as I am and have committed themselves to giving us full support to wake up a sleeping giant and I think is not to teach Wydad how to win as a football club, I mean 22 league titles, three Champions League, it’s a team that knows how to win.” Said Mokwena.
Appointed Wydad Casablanca coach
Mokwena also pointed at the pedigree of Wydad and said the mission was to awaken the sleeping giant.
“Our [job] is just to come here and remind them of what Wydad stands for and when you speak about love, when I did my history on the club I found out that Wydad means love, appreciation. So the same appreciation I once felt from the supporters as an opponent, I’m grateful things have turned and now I receive the same amount of love and maybe even more as I join this incredible family – so yeah it’s going to be a very difficult task.” Said Mokwena as per iDiskiTimes.
It now remains to be seen if Mokwena brings some ex-Sundowns members of technical staff to the club.
