Burnley have signed Samuel Bastien from Belgium’s Standard Liege for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Bastien began his career at Anderlecht where he graduated through their youth academy and made his debut on 3 December 2014 – as he replaced now Leicester’s Youri Tielemans in a 4-1 league win at home to K.R.C Mechelen.
That senior debut proved to be his only appearance for Anderlecht as he spent the following season on loan at Avellino, before he went on to play for Chievo Verona between 2016-19 prior to a return to Belgium with Liege where he scored 12 goals in 123 appearances.
Speaking about his decision to move to Burnley, Bastien said: “I’m very proud to join Burnley Football Club. I’m excited to discover the Championship, in my new colours.
“I can’t wait to get started, begin pre-season and meet my new teammates.”
Manager, Vincent Kompany added: “Samuel is a great addition to our team. He is a high energy midfielder, who can link up play, works very hard and recovers the ball well.”
Kompany went on to state that he is “delighted” to welcome Bastien to Turf Moor, as the Belgian becomes their fourth signing, following the arrivals of Scott Twine, Luke McNally and CJ Egan-Riley in recent weeks.
Bastien like his fellow new signings could make his competitive debut on Friday 29 July in their first match back in the Sky Bet Championship, away to Huddersfield Town live on Sky Sports with kick-off confirmed for 8pm BST UK Time.
On the international stage, Bastien represented Belgium at youth level but chose to switch his senior allegiance to Africa’s DR Congo, where he has gone on to make four senior appearances.
Burnley meanwhile have confirmed that striker, Wout Weghorst has departed on loan to Turkey’s Besiktas, just months after he joined the club in January but couldn’t help prevent relegation at end of last season.
We can confirm that Wout Weghorst has completed a season-long loan to Beşiktaş.
The 29-year-old has joined the Turkish Süper Lig side for the season after joining Burnley earlier this year from VfL Wolfsburg.
