Munich (dpa/d.de) – At the opening of the IAA Mobility motor show in Munich on Tuesday, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz praised the innovation of German carmakers and suppliers. “There can be no question of the competitiveness of the car industry in Germany,” Scholz said. With reference to the planned mobility transformation, he stressed that his goal remained for Germany to have 15 million electric cars on its roads and “a million charging points” by 2030.
“The mobility transformation is a big undertaking, but it’s also a job for team. Today, I come to you as a committed member of that team – climate-neutral mobility in Germany and from Germany,” said the Federal Chancellor at the opening of the motor show. “For us as the Federal Government, that means that we are creating the conditions needed for Germany to become climate-neutral by 2045 while remaining a strong industrial nation.”
After the opening ceremony Scholz went on a two-hour tour of the exhibition halls to look at future projects by German carmakers and suppliers. The IAA is held annually by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). The VDA aims to use the event to give a platform to “sustainable and intelligently networked mobility solutions”, amongst other things. Networking different modes of transport is an important topic at the motor show.
