Berlin (dpa) – Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be embarking this week on his second major visit to Africa as head of government. From Thursday to Saturday he will be visiting Ethiopia and Kenya, as a government spokeswoman announced. The focus will be on the fight against hunger and climate change, economic cooperation, peacekeeping and managing conflicts such as that currently taking place in Sudan.
In Ethiopia, Scholz plans not only to meet with government representatives but also to visit the African Union that 55 states have joined. Afterwards he will travel on to Kenya, where cooperation in the area of renewable energies will be among the topics discussed. Scholz will be accompanied on his trip by several representatives of German companies. In May last year, he had travelled to Africa for the first time less than six months after taking office. At that time he visited the Bundeswehr soldiers stationed in Niger and stopped off in Senegal in West Africa and in South Africa.
