The best basketball player in the world debate rages on nearly continuously every day. If you look hard enough, you can probably find a fresh one at any time of any day on social media as NBA fans love to engage in back and forths and tell someone else when they believe they are wrong.
Some of those opinions come out of left field and possess a lot of bias without much information to back it up. However, you will sometimes come across a well-thought-out argument that really makes you think.
Normally, people who played the game of basketball at a high level have their opinions held to a higher standard. They could be looking at things differently than the regular fan sitting at home watching the game on TV or recaps and highlights on their phone.
One of those players who will draw a lot of attention when he provides an opinion like that is Shaquille O’Neal. During his playing days, O’Neal was the most dominant player on the court offensively and sometimes defensively.
He knows a thing or two about being the best player and recently he offered up his opinion about who the best basketball player in the world currently is. His answer may surprise some people as it isn’t a big man that he is giving the title to.
“I do, but nobody’s going to beat the best player in the world, Stephen Curry.”
A strong argument could certainly be made for Stephen Curry being the best player in the world. He is fresh off of his first NBA Finals MVP award, helping lead the Golden State Warriors to a victory over the Boston Celtics in six games in the 2022 NBA Finals.
It is the fourth title in eight seasons for Curry and the Warriors, who are looking to get their dynasty back on track after a two-year hiatus from the postseason. The eight-time All-Star and two-time regular season MVP revolutionized the game of basketball with his 3-point shooting prowess and Shaquille O’Neal likely isn’t alone in saying that he is the best player in the world right now.
