Flensburg (d.de) – Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular in Germany. Within a period of one year, the number of electrically powered vehicles in Germany increased by 39.1 percent to 1.4 million at the beginning of 2024, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority. The number of hybrid cars increased by 24.5 percent to around 2.9 million. The total number of cars on the road rose by 0.6 percent to 49.1 million.
The Federal Government’s aim is for there to be at least 15 million electric cars on the roads in Germany by 2030. Electromobility is a key component of the envisaged transport transition, which in turn is crucial in order to meet climate targets. Germany has set itself the goal of becoming a climate-neutral industrial nation by 2045.
