South Africa on Sunday reported 230 new COVID-19 infections from a sample size of 19,267 tests conducted over the last 24 hours, taking the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 2,922,116.
In the same duration, the country registered 14 fatalities, taking its virus-related deaths to 89,177.
South Africa is the hardest-hit country in Africa by the pandemic.
The country accounts for 34.4 per cent of the continent’s caseload and 40.84 per cent of its fatalities.
Gauteng Province has reported the highest number of infections, with its 919,541 dwarfing the tallies of the other regions.
Two other provinces have reported more than half a million cases; KwaZulu-Natal (515,585) and Western Cape (513,647).
