TEXARKANA, Texas — Two grants totaling more than $40,000 will fund coming downtown art projects.
The Texas Commission on the Arts awarded the Texarkana Arts and Historic District $35,000 and the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council $5,500.
The $35,000 Cultural Project Grant will pay for continuing a light sculpture project around the U.S. courthouse and post office. Installation is slated to begin in 2023.
Light sculptor and Texas artist Bill FitzGibbons will create the art, according to previous Gazette reports.
Based in San Antonio, FitzGibbons has created work such as the Alamo Lights, Spirit of San Fernando and Kinetic Skyline there, but his public art projects also include work overseas in Iceland, Finland, Germany, Sweden and Great Britain.
