Bonfire night is almost upon us, and there are lots of ways to celebrate.
From watching the fireworks to attending a bonfire, the options are endless.
But we mustn’t forget that Bonfire Night is about Guy Fawkes’ failed plot to blow up Parliament.

And with that in mind, why not spend the run-up to Bonfire Night trying to bag yourself tickets to this incredible new experience?
Taking place at the Tower of London from May 2022, the Gunpowder Plot promises to be “the biggest London attraction to open since the Shard”.
The immersive experience is the Gunpowder Plot like you’ve never seen before.
Live actors, virtual reality and multi-sensory special effects will bring you back to 1605, where you’ll have to infiltrate the plotters and earn their trust in order to join them.
Set in one of the vaults in the Tower of London, which hasn’t been open to the public in two decades, the experience is set in the same place where Guy Fawkes was tortured and confessed to his plot.
This is no escape room and certainly no theatre show.
Layered Reality, the company behind the experience, are using three multimedia elements to bring the experience to life.
There are theatrical features with comprising intricate, large-scale walk-around sets and actors performing live.
Then there’s virtual reality and projection mapping, ambisonics and multi-sensory SFX, and on top of that is physical sensations: temperature, scent, taste, physical movement, touch and sound.
“So when you’re stepping back into 1605, all of your senses are telling you that you’re there,” says Layered Reality CEO Andrew McGuinness. “Your eyes are seeing London as it was in 1605, you get the smells, you will for the first time see the Tower of London how it looked in 1605, and you’ll go down the Thames and see it as it was at that time. That’s what makes it so magical.”
You won’t just be observing the Gunpowder Plot or watching someone else reenact it, you’ll actually be participating in it.
You’ll be going undercover in the infamous plot and meeting all its key players.
For maximum accuracy, the project is in collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces, who have made sure every detail is accurate, down to the way people would swear at the time.
On why it’s so special, Andrew said: “When the Shard opened it offered a view of London that you’d never seen. What we’re offering is a view back into the London of the past that you could never have experienced.”
The Gunpowder Plot experience opens on 6th May 2022.
