Sokoto State governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, has told the new commissioners to brace up for the task ahead as they cannot afford to fail the people of the state.
Aliyu on Wednesday swore in 25 commissioners as members of the Sokoto State Executive Council and also assigned portfolios to the new appointees.
The governor’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa in a statement said the governor gave the charge after the swearing-in ceremony which was held at the Sokoto International Conference Center in Kasarawa.
Aliyu thereafter charged the newly sworn-in commissioners to do everything within their power to sustain the efforts of the government to improve the livelihood of the people and ensure economic prosperity of the state.
“My administration had met an empty treasury, things were in shambles and many structures were in a state of dilapidation, as such, you should brace up for the task ahead,” he said.
“You should be transparent and ensure due process in the discharge of your official responsibilities. This administration is on a rescue mission and together with your wealth of experience we will salvage the state.
“We will work wholeheartedly with the fear of Allah, saying that no administration will work effectively and efficiently without members of the state executive who are the engine seat of any successful administration.
“I am optimistic with the caliber of people appointed as members of the state executive council, this administration will deliver the much-expected dividend of democracy to the citizens of the state,” Aliyu stated.
He also reminded them on his administration’s thrust of nine-point agenda, stressing they should strive to meet the yearning and aspirations of the people of Sokoto state.
Bawa said the Sokoto state Deputy Governor, Engr Idris Muhammad Gobir will oversee the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The full list of the commissioners and their respective ministries are as follows, Nasiru Binji, Commissioner of Justice and state Attorney General; Ibrahim Adire, Ministry of Local Government; Muhammadu Shagari, Ministry of Finance, and Sharifu Kamarawa, Ministry of Home Affairs.
Others are Alhaji Tukur Alkali, Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education; Dr Jabir Mai Hula, Ministry of Religious Affairs; Nasiru Tsoho, Ministry of Lands & Housing; Aminu Iya, Ministry of Higher Education; Hadiza Shagari, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs; Sambo Danchadi, Ministry of Information; Alhaji Bello Wamakko, Ministry of Agriculture; Ministry of Animal Health and Fisheries Development, Aliyu Tureta, and Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Jamilu Gosta.
Also in the list were Bala Kokani, Ministry of Science & Technology; Yusuf Maccido, Ministry of Water; Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, Ministry of Health; Nura Tangaza, Ministry of Environment; Shehu Chacho, Ministry for Special Duties; Ministry of Social and Humanitarian Affairs, Ya’u Danda; Culture and Tourism, Aminu Bodai; Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industries, Haruna Bashar; Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy, Bashar Kwabo; Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Resources, Sanusi Umar, and Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Alhaji Isah Tambagarka.
