It’s been a little while since the 1-1 draw with Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versveld. Sundowns played the Nedbank Cup before flying to Mauritania last weekend for the CAF Champions League.
Coming up next is league football at home to Durban giants AmaZulu this evening. According to Sundowns, the game will start at 19:30.
HLOMPO KEKANA ON NEW SIGNINGS
Staying with Sundowns, the club’s legendary former midfielder Kekana has reacted to the new transfers.
Kabo Yellow recently signed the right-back Zuko Mdutyelwa from Chippa United, followed by the Argentine midfielder Matías Esquivel.
They were followed by Tashreeq Matthews from IK Sirius and of course Thembinkosi Lorch from Orlando Pirates.
Kekana believes the signings were a well-thought out plan for the second round of the season.
“In a football match, you don’t know what you’re going to get, especially in the second round of the season, so you need a lot of flexibility in terms of your attack,” said Kekana via SABC.
“I did mention that they know at Mamelodi Sundowns, that there’s players who already establish themselves and they know how the team plays.
“You can’t always rely on one player, which is Peter Shalulile, to score goals for us, and I think you saw, when Peter is not there, Mamelodi Sundowns is not the Mamelodi Sundowns that we know, especially going forward.
“To bring players that can play two or three positions will help in terms of attack, and I think we can sit here and think, ‘maybe [Sundowns] didn’t need them,’ but it will be proven in a football match that’s still coming.
“So, I think it’s for us to sit back and watch how it will unfold,” the Sundowns icon concluded.
