Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Tyrone Ebuehi scored the winning goal as Empoli defeated Sampdoria in the Italian Serie A on Monday night.
Unlike visiting Sampdoria, Empoli went into the game lessed pressed in 13th place on the Italian Serie A standings and 10 points clear of the relegation zone, a place Ebuehi spent most of last season with Venezia.
Sampdoria arrived at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in 19th spot, desperate and in need of points as the season approaches the halfway mark.
A cagey first half failed to produce any goal and so both teams went into the locker room tied on 0-0.
10 minutes into the second half, the breakthrough arrived via a surprise source.
Tyrone Ebuehi scored to put Empoli in front in the 55th minute. His first for the club having joined as a free agent in the summer.
Sampdoria will press forward in search of an equalizer and will feel hard done after a goal deep into stoppage time was disallowed.
So it was Tyrone Ebuehi’s goal to separate both sides at the end of the game. Empoli marching to a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria.
With his performances for Empoli, Ebuehi will look to force his way back into the Nigeria Super Eagles team.
