What’s Happening?
The Biden administration has tried to deter people from reaching the border by establishing an asylum ban, deportation flights, and other inhumane barriers. It has not worked. Now, the Biden administration has decided to waive 26 environmental, cultural, and historical laws in order to build a 20 mile wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.
This action goes against the administration’s campaign promises and statements that “building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not a serious policy solution.” The funds for the wall were appropriated in 2019 – and now the Biden administration has the option to “use them or lose them.” The administration has decided to use them.
President Biden claims that he is required by law to construct the wall and has no wiggle room to get the money appropriated for other purposes. But Congress members such as Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NYC) and Veronica Escobar (D-El Paso) are pushing back by saying that the administration was not required to waive 26 laws to construct the wall.
Join us in urging action against the administration’s decision to use our tax dollars to cause environmental damage. These resources should be used to improve immigration services at the border that protect the right to asylum and keep families together.

“My name is [NAME], from [CITY, TOWN, STATE, ZIP CODE], I am urging the Biden administration to reallocate the funding for the construction of the border wall to adequate resources for migrants and asylum seekers. This policy will make it even more dangerous for migrants to seek refuge and cause irreparable environmental damage. Walls do not work. We need the Biden administration to act on accessible, efficient, and humane solutions.”
