A boy from Tana River county has beaten the odds to feature among the success stories in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
Dube Yakub had dropped out of school due to financial challenges and resorted to herding his father’s cattle.
It took the intervention of his uncle who admitted him to Ama Primary School in Hola, Tana River county, where he completed his primary education.

Due to his potential, the teachers there allowed him to continue with his education despite the challenge of raising school fees; he revealed that the teachers mobilised for help on his behalf.
“My father doesn’t know anything to do with school. My uncle brought me here. Fees used to be the problem and I would be sent most of the time. In class eight, teachers would sympathise with me. I learnt freely throughout my final year,” he said.
