An Australian-born Sudanese teenager is turning heads in the athletics world after a remarkable performance in the 100m race.
The excitement surrounding teenager Gout Gout is easily justified and here’s why.
In 2022, the then 14-year-old became the fastest Australian U16 boy in history when he ran the 100m in 10.57 seconds.
A year later, at 15, Gout underlined his potential after breaking 21 seconds in the 200m at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Brisbane, completing the race in a remarkable time of 20.87 seconds to set a national record for the age group.
And the now 16-year-old teenager is still at it. He recently ran the 100m in a quick fire 10.2 seconds, confirming his status as world athletics’ brightest sprinting prodigy.

One of seven children to parents Monica and Bona, Gout was born in Brisbane in 2007 after his parents migrated to Australia from the southern parts of Sudan — now known as South Sudan — in 2005.
The Australian record holder speaks few words by virtue of his humble and shy nature, not yet acquainted with his newfound publicity.
He attends Ipswich Grammar private school in Queensland, where he received his first pair of spikes after impressing during the school’s inter-house athletics festival, and is now coached by Diane Sheppard.
