From the ocean floor to high above the cloud line, the Sony World Photography Awards 2024 offers a truly global approach to image-making.
This year’s competition garnered 395,000 images from more than 220 countries and is incredibly diverse in subject matter and location. Jair Fernando Coll Rubiano transports us to Colombia’s annual Black Child of God celebration, while Mitul Kajaria documents the efforts of a women’s collective to improve the lives of impoverished families. Others focus on the natural world, like Seongmin Park who captures the primal bond between parent and child.
The photos shown here are on several shortlists, although the overall winners will be announced later this spring and on view from April 19 to May 6 at Somerset House in London.
